Hair Restoration

Find out the facts….

In Australia, there are a lot of reasons why men are interested in hair replacement and hair restoration and hair loss treatments.  No one wants to get old and, least of all, no one wants to lose their hair.

Our hair is our crowning feature, literally!  It changes the shape of our head, our face and even people’s perceptions of our bodies. The style of your hair can make you look taller, slimmer or shorter and fatter (are we even allowed to use that word today?).  Let’s just say it make can make our face look a little ‘fuller’.  It’s no surprise that leading men on the big screen have almost always had a full head of hair.

Three Reasons Why Men Consider Hair Replacement or Hair Restoration in 2020

There are many reasons why men consider fixing their thinning hair or baldness.  After working with men with hair loss for over 25 years, here are the three key reasons, but not the only reasons, in our opinion:

1.      Personal Brand and Style - our hair is the main and most natural way we express our personal style, it reflects who we are.  Even though we may not admit it, most men love their hair. Losing it can damage our confidence, personal brand and sense of self.  As a result, it makes us less successful in our personal and professional lives.

2.     Improves your life – Numerous scientific studies suggest good hair can make your life better.  Studies show that people who are better looking earn on average 15% more and are generally more successful than their less attractive peers.  There are many reasons why this might be the case, but we know from thousands of personal discussions with our clients that hair loss holds many men back from going for that promotion, landing that big deal, or speaking to the gorgeous person in the bar.  The psychology of hair loss is deep and is worthy of further study in other articles.

3.     Contagious Confidence - One thing we do know is that confidence is contagious and attractive in itself. We also know there are few things that make you feel as confident as a full head of hair that reflects your personal style. In fact, having a full head of hair is often associated with confidence, even over confidence, if only because people with great hair are often more confident than others. They might not know what the source of their confidence is, but like Samson, it can be a source of profound strength. Even if it’s unconscious to the sould with full hair. The key thing here is the association great hair has with confidence in the minds of those you meet. If they think you are confident soul, the immediately warm to you more than others, most of the time. This is starts a cycle of confidence where you people’s perception become reality. If people think you are confident, it’s hard not to be. Then when you are confident, you product more confidence which is attractive. It’s a perpetual virtuous circle.

At Hairskeen Australia, our philosophy about having hair is that it’s all about becoming more like yourself rather than being something that you aren’t. Hairskeen offers you the option to have an edgy, trendy look if you want it.  Or, you can simply have a classic, conservative look.  In each case, it can be undetectable, natural and have a great hairline.

What Are the Options to Overcome Balding?

The issue of hair loss and baldness has had the attention of men for centuries, even millennia.  From “snake oil” charlatans to specialist doctors cures, treatments and hair loss solutions proffered has ranged from the absurd and useless, to the proven, effective and trusted methods widely used today that actually have help men regain their hair or at the very least, their style.

The most popular cosmetic solutions to overcome balding are hair restoration and hair replacement.

What is the Difference Between Hair Restoration and Hair Replacement?

At first glance, these terms would appear to be the same — both provide the client the hair that they are missing. However, which really serves the client’s needs? The answer to that question really depends on what the client is looking for, their budget, and other needs.

Hair Restoration a.k.a Hair Transplant – FUE or FUT

Hair restoration is also known as a hair transplant, and it involves replacing the hair that has been lost. This is achieved by transplanting hair from one place of the scalp to the other.

We often refer to it as the “Robin Hood of Hair Economics” – you rob the rich to give to the poor . Effectively, you are taking hair from high density areas of hair to relocate them to less densely populated regions of hair. There is no net gain of hair follicles – this is really important to understand.  The hair that has been removed doesn’t grow in new hair like grass (many think this is what happens), rather you have depleted your hair resource from where the hair was donated.

Hair Transplantation is a surgical procedure that requires anesthetic, usually local anesthetic and at least 10 days off work…. and a lot of patience. The scalp will remain pink with dots for a few weeks where the new hair was transplanted and it can take at least 9 months until you see a reasonable result.  When the hair is transplanted, it falls out not long after the procedure, lies dormant for a time and then begins to regrow.  General guidance from medical practitioners suggest that it takes a full 18 months to see the full net benefits.  Usually a minimum of two significant procedures are required to see a good result.

Some benefits of a hair transplant procedure are:

  • Natural hair look

  • Natural growth

  • Improved self-esteem

the cons of a hair transplant:

  • Risk for scarring and infection

  • Can be expensive

  • Can lose the transplanted hair the the procedure doesn’t follow specific protocols or the doctor and technicians lack skill

  • Other areas of your head can bald causing an odd look or requiring more surgery

  • Bald spot on the crown – usually people don’t have enough hair to fill in the crown

  • Lifetime Medication to keep the original (non-transplanted) hair growing on top

Though there are clear benefits to hair restoration, it might not be the healthiest or best option for some clients.

Hair Replacement for Men

Hair replacement for men, on the other hand, includes hair systems, toupees, wigs, and Hairskeen’s hair replacement solution. These are fitted, coloured, styled, and often bonded semi-permanently to the client’s skin cells. Because of the advancement of technology and the call for better solutions to hair loss and how undetectable this solution looks today, many do not realise how natural and prevalent hair replacement is today.  “You never see the good ones, so you never get the positive reinforcement they deserve” says Andrew Wilson, CEO of Hairskeen Australia.

Six benefits of hair replacement:

  • Instant results

  • No surgery needed and thus no risk for infection

  • Affordable cost

  • Natural look

  • Improved self-confidence

  • Many utilize real, human hair

Some of the cons of hair replacement:

  • Clients can feel like they are wearing a wig — depending on the solution they choose

  • Require regular maintenance and cleaning

What Hair Loss Solution Should Your Clients Choose?

Though the end result, in theory, is the same, these two means of allowing a client to enjoy a full head of hair are quite different: one is surgical and the other is non-invasive. Additionally, a hair transplant has no guarantee for how it will look, if it will work, and how it will perform in the future. Hair replacement allows your client to try it out and if it isn’t for them, it can be easily removed. Also, besides the monetary investment, there is no risk.

What is best for a client, depends on ultimately what they want, but in many cases, hair replacement versus hair restoration or a hair transplant is the best, more effective option.
